You can have simple, concise stats with no additional load on your server by plugging into WordPress.com’s stat system.

There are hundreds of plugins and services which can provide statistics about your visitors. However I found that even though something like Google Analytics provides an incredible depth of information, it can be overwhelming and doesn’t really highlight what’s most interesting to me as a writer. That’s why Automattic created its own stats system, to focus on just the most popular metrics a blogger wants to track and provide them in a clear and concise interface.

Installing this stats plugin is much like installing Akismet, all you need is to put in your [API Key](http://wordpress.com/api-keys/ “You can get a free API key from WordPress.com”) and the rest is automatic.

Once it’s running it’ll begin collecting information about your pageviews, which posts and pages are the most popular, where your traffic is coming from, and what people click on when they leave. It’ll also add a link to your dashboard which allows you to see all your stats on a single page. Less is more.

Finally, because all of the processing and collection runs on our servers and not yours, it doesn’t cause any additional load on your hosting account. In fact, it’s one of the fastest stats system, hosted or not hosted, that you can use.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay is one of those exceedingly rare types of games that delivers exceptionally high quality through and through and single-handedly ups the ante for all similar games.

The fact that it also happens to be based on a movie franchise--something that's usually a bad sign for a game--makes it all the more incredible. You could call it a first-person shooter, but that would be selling it short. This ambitious game is played mostly from a first-person perspective, and it effectively and innovatively combines excellent shooting, hand-to-hand combat, stealth, and adventure elements with a solid story and truly outstanding, highly atmospheric graphics and sound. The game debuted on the Xbox earlier this year, but it has turned out to be every bit as surprisingly good on the PC, thanks to an excellent translation that shows no traces of the game's console origins. Furthermore, some exciting, brand-new extras that are exclusive to the PC version make it worth experiencing even by those who've played and enjoyed the original version of the game. No, the Chronicles of Riddick isn't a highly anticipated first-person shooter sequel. But don't let that make you assume it can't be one of the year's best action games--because it is.

The Witcher Enhanced Edition
The Witcher gets an upgrade featuring a number of technical and visual improvements.

CD Projekt Red made small improvements on the GUI that were needed and big improvements on the graphics engine but the most noticeable enhancement is the reduction of loading times! Saving a game and going to a new area is now a snap.

The battle mechanics (unchanged) are great and refreshing, the story is superb and the atmosphere is moody, dark and gritty. They also have added new finishing(fatality) moves to Geralt, that enhance combat and make this game more fun to play.

You also get two new adventures that are great fun and pretty challenging at times, lots of extras and if you are a registered owner of the original you get all this for free!

This was last year's RPG of the year for me and with the release of Dragon Age set for 2009, it will make my list of RPG of the year 2008.

By far the biggest change to this year's game is the addition of fighting styles. This is a sort of classification of each wrestler type that gives wrestlers under each type specific abilities. For instance, powerhouse types like Batista can effectively "hulk up" when they fill up their energy meter and store a fighting style icon, which renders them impervious to strikes and makes all their grapple moves irreversible. Secondary abilities are also available. For instance, a powerhouse can also pull off stronger Irish whips that send opponents over the ropes. There are several different types of these styles, including technical wrestlers, high-flyers, brawlers, submission specialists, dirty fighters, showmen, and hardcore types.
For the most part, each of the abilities assigned to these different archetypes fit nicely into each wrestler's general moveset, but some have a tendency to appear overmuch over the course of a match, and in some cases, they also feel a little overpowered. The powerhouse's ability to just grapple at will tends to be a lot more effective at ending a match quickly than the high-flyer's ability to do surprise pins. Granted, there's always been that difference in effectiveness between wrestlers of this type, but these fighting styles just make those differences all the more pronounced. Not to suggest that you can't win with smaller, less powerful guys, but if you get caught in a flurry of punches from a brawler or a series of hard slams from a powerhouse, you're down for the count.
Still, apart from this ECW-centric stuff, there's not much else to marvel at with the gameplay this year, especially considering all the holdover problems from previous games that plague this sequel. The artificial intelligence continues its downward spiral into utter boobdom, especially in any kind of gimmick match where weapons are prevalent. They'll constantly stand around, periodically flailing at another wrestler with a weapon and hoping for the best. Any match that has a ladder involved but nothing hanging above the ring to collect still results in a number of wrestlers constantly scaling ladders in the middle of the ring over and over again. Tag partners still sometimes forget that they're supposed to help you when you're in trouble, too. And now, with this new fighting style system, the AI has taken to relying on these various special moves to an almost irritating degree. How many times can one guy use the ref as a shield, or "hulk up" in a match? Apparently the answer is "too many."
In terms of content, SmackDown! vs. RAW 2008 offers roughly the same roster of match types and modes as last year, with a few small additions and a few significant downgrades. The biggest downgrade is the 24/7 mode, which actually now wraps the single-player story mode and the general manager mode up into one haphazard package. In an effort to combine the two, the story mode has lost all its punch and ability to deliver something even closely resembling a real storyline. Sure, you still get the yearlong title hunt with one of the main superstars in the game or a created grappler, but the story barely rears its head beyond the scope of a series of voicemails you get from other wrestlers and the general manager of the brand. The few cutscenes you do get are pretty generic, and sometimes they don't even fit the context of what's going on. Sometimes wrestlers you supposedly are fighting with will give you a handshake backstage. Couple that with some of the voicemails sometimes identifying the wrong person as your rival, and even identifying the wrestler you're controlling as someone you're supposed to fight, and the story aspects of this mode feel more than a bit hacked together.
In place of story is a bunch of lame statistical data and achievements that your wrestler is supposed to hit over the course of the season. You earn respect and eventual title shots by increasing your skill and your popularity with the fans, and you increase that stuff by doing all these little challenges and ventures between shows. Is your strength rating lacking? Go wrestle a guy for two minutes and do as many strong grappling moves as possible. Need to improve on the mic? Spend some cash for a nonplayable training exercise and get a boost to that statistic. Need to rest up? Take some R&R at the expense of your wrestler's fatigue rating, as well as a bit of his popularity. The trick to this whole aspect of the mode is keeping a balance between all the various things you're doing. Overexert yourself and you'll be much more prone to injury, which forces you to wrestle with damage already taken (even though the doctor always tells you to rest up, you can't skip shows), and if you just rest constantly, your popularity rating will plummet.

Alexander is the second official expansion pack for the multi-award-winning Rome: Total War. The add-on pack casts players as one of history’s most brilliant generals, Alexander the Great, handing them the opportunity to replicate his all-conquering achievements and tactical genius on the battlefield.

It may be a bit too fast and furious, but this extremely challenging expansion depicting the conquests of Alexander the Great is a fantastic addition to the Rome: Total War family.

Alexander the Great supposedly once said, "There is nothing impossible to him who would try." Well, he never played his namesake expansion pack for Rome: Total War. This latest, download-only addition to The Creative Assembly's long-running series of historic epics is so spectacularly difficult that even the legendary Macedonian conqueror would have a rough go of subduing those pesky Persians. The game provides an illuminating lesson on just how tough of a task the monarch set for himself when he journeyed out to conquer the known world in 335 BC, and it's a splash of cold Grecian wine in the face of Total War-series veterans who think they've done it all.

This content is more than enough, though, largely because the campaign is so challenging that most players will spend many, many hours experimenting with different ways to beat it. It changes the focus of the original Rome: Total War by dropping any pretense of building and diplomacy in favor of a 100-turn slugfest that favors battles over Rome's turn-based deliberation, so if you're expecting lots of political intrigue and empire-building, you might not find what you're looking for. This is a Macedonian rush to get Big Al roughly to the border of India while holding 30 provinces before the clock runs out and the gods spirit him away to Olympus (or he gets drunk and dies, depending on which version you want to believe). While you still can play around with fortifying conquered towns and setting up garrisons (there is no diplomacy available at all here), to do so means that you'll never occupy enough areas before the sands run through the hourglass and Alexander's life comes to a youthful end.

Needless to say, getting to the promised land is not easy. The odds are stacked against you from the very start of the game. Play opens with the Macedonian treasury deep in the red and the capital, Pella, sandwiched between Persian armies on the eastern side of the Bosphorus and a pesky Illyrian barbarian force to the northwest. Go gung ho into Asia to take on the Persians right away (which you feel pressed to do, given you're on a clock and supposed to be heading east, not west) and the Illyrians can cruise in and take Pella. Devote too much strength to the Illyrians, and the Persian army and fleet to the east go on the offensive.

It's tough getting established in Asia with a reasonably strong army, let alone blitzing all the way into India. Armies get whittled down constantly. Even though you start with a massive force, it gets hacked apart in short order since you're forced to fight one big battle after another. You have no way to properly rest and rebuild, either, as a scorched-earth policy is necessary to raise cash for troops and to ensure that you don't wind up with revolts in your rear that you have no time to go back and deal with. This is more than a bit ahistorical. History buffs might find it strange and off-putting to lead Alexander's armies to crush his neighbors, since this doesn't mesh with the mercy that the real Alexander showed to conquered cities or the conqueror's cultural-fusion policy (it's hard to merge Greece with Persia when you're slaughtering every Persian you lay your eyes upon). But there is no other way to wage war here. Play the benevolent conqueror, and you inevitably wind up fighting a war on two fronts later in the game.

No other game since Knights of the Old Republic has managed to deliver this excellent style of role-playing.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic wasn't just the best role-playing game of 2003. It was one of the best things to happen to Star Wars in years. Knights of the Old Republic impressively succeeded on several counts: It delivered a memorable and open-ended story featuring lots of excellent voice acting, an entertaining strategic combat system, and a lengthy, highly replayable quest. Now all those good traits--as well as the game's few shortcomings--are back once again in Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. The sequel is clearly aimed at fans of the original, since it's a very similar game whose storyline picks up not long after the first one left off. Given that The Sith Lords arrives only about a year after its predecessor, it's remarkable that the game's quest is every bit as big and complex as the original's. On the other hand, some unsightly technical issues and a general feeling of déjà vu will probably prevent you from feeling as strongly about The Sith Lords as you did or still do about the first game.
Nevertheless, it's hard to fault The Sith Lords for following in the footsteps of the original so faithfully.
Like its predecessor, The Sith Lords takes place thousands of years before any of the Star Wars movies and is focused on some of the formative struggles between the Jedi and their power-hungry counterparts, the Sith. In the first game, you eventually discovered your Jedi powers, as well as your mysterious past. This time, you play as a different character that begins the adventure as a Jedi--but your knowledge of the character's past, the character's Force powers, and even the character's lightsaber are all missing. A journey of self-discovery awaits, and as you pick up the pieces of your character's past and discover the reasons for his or her exile from the Jedi order, your path will lead you to the few Jedi who survived the catastrophic events that took place at the conclusion of the original game.In your search for them, you'll once again visit the remnants of the Jedi enclave on Dantooine. You'll take sides in a political struggle on Onderon between a queen and a general in her army, and you'll search through the lush jungles of its moon, Dxun. You'll also see some ancient Sith burial grounds on Korriban, and more. The story of The Sith Lords turns out to be quite intriguing most of the way through, thanks to some enigmatic and complex characters and a few exciting episodes you'll experience along the way. However, a fairly terse resolution and some occasionally strange leaps of logic near the end are mildly disappointing, especially given how much exposition there is leading up to the climactic confrontations that occur. But the course of the adventure (which should take you 30 to 40 hours each time through) is rewarding enough as it is, and the story is ultimately about as good as that of the original, and is therefore one of the new game's main attractions.
At the heart of Star Wars has always been a traditional struggle of good versus evil, but the franchise is at its best when its conflicts are a little more sophisticated. Much like Knights of the Old Republic before it, The Sith Lords does a great job of making you feel like your actions can have real consequences, one way or another. You'll constantly be faced with good or evil options in your discourse with the game's many characters, and the story pans out differently no matter what you decide. Better yet, the decision making isn't always so cut-and-dried. For instance, one of your companions, a mysterious old Jedi named Kreia, might chastise you for doing what you felt was certainly the right thing. Kreia makes a convincing point, causing you to second-guess yourself: Sometimes, people must learn life's hard lessons firsthand, and helping them out of a bind at these critical moments may not be what's ultimately best for them. The Sith Lords' morally ambiguous storyline has a number of poignant moments along these lines, and since much depends on the decisions you make and the traveling companions you take with you, there will be plenty left to see after you've finished the game for the first time. It also has some nice throwbacks to the original story, most notably in the form of several returning characters whom you'll probably appreciate seeing (and hearing) again.

Mafia is set in the 1930s, between the fall of 1930 through to the end of 1938, during the later part of Prohibition, which ended in 1933.The game is set in the fictional American city of 'Lost Heaven' (loosely based on New York City and Chicago of the same time period).
The player takes the role of taxi driver Thomas (Tommy) Angelo, who, while trying to make a living on the streets of Lost Heaven, unexpectedly and unwillingly becomes involved in organized crime as a driver for the Salieri crime family, led by Don Salieri.
Through the events of the game's story, Tommy begins to rise through the ranks of the Salieri 'family', which is currently battling the competing Morello family, led by the sharply-dressed Don Morello. Eventually becoming disillusioned by his life of crime and violence, Tommy arranges to meet a detective (Detective Norman) in order to tell him his story, to be given witness-protection, and to aid the detective in the destruction of the Salieri crime family. The 'Intermezzo' chapters of the game depict Tommy sitting in a cafe with the detective, relating his life story and giving out important pieces of information at the same time.
Most of Mafia's 20 large missions are split into sections. You'll usually watch one of the game's long but well-done in-engine cutscenes, get assigned a few weapons, choose a car, and then drive through the city to a given destination. At this point, a separate level--generally a third-person action sequence--is loaded. After you complete the level, you'll usually drive home. Some missions mix the structure up a little, and some offer an optional bonus task on the drive home. The most serious complaint that can be made about Mafia is that the city isn't as tightly integrated into the missions as it is in Grand Theft Auto III. Often, driving across the city is more of a mood-enhancing interactive cutscene than a gameplay element that poses an actual challenge. This is fine in the beginning, but by the time you've reached the halfway point, you may find yourself wishing that you could simply fast-forward through these parts. You're often free to deviate from the quickest path to your destination and go exploring, but unlike in Grand Theft Auto III, there's little reason to do so. There are no bonuses to find, and, while you can run people around in a taxi for money, this option is available only in a mode that's completely detached from the single-player campaign and must be accessed separately from the main menu.
Mafia's realistic car physics and police behavior both add to the occasional tedium of the straightforward driving segments. For the most part, the game's 60 or so 1930s-era vehicles aren't rocket cars. They don't often go very fast, they don't always start the first time you turn the key, and they have some serious problems climbing steep hills. You won't be making 300-foot barrel-roll jumps in any of them. Furthermore, the Lost Heaven PD will see to it that you don't even drive as fast as the cars will go. They'll pull you over for driving over 40 and running red lights, among other things. Even if you're in a really cool-looking old-time car, a simulation of driving the speed limit isn't exactly a recipe for thrills.

such as the second crusader trail and all 8 new AI opponents.
Other than the fact that you can wage 10,000-unit battles, don?t expect much difference between Stronghold Crusader Extreme and the regular, nonextreme Stronghold Crusader. Sure, you get a bunch of new maps, but (due to the resource-gathering nature of Extreme?s gameplay) all of the maps feature fairly interchangeable layouts. Some new bad guys will take you on, but their A.I. algorithms seem identical to Crusader -- which isn?t a compliment. Finally, the graphics are totally identical.
And by totally identical, I mean totally identical?to 1995-era graphics. The maximum screen resolution is 1024x768, so good luck getting all 10,000 of your dudes to fit onscreen. Also, good luck not wondering why this game looks like a refried butt nugget. Seriously, guys?a 2D engine? Blocky sprites? Really?
Anyway, Extreme plays pretty much the same as other Stronghold games. You have a small keep and some natural resources around you. You build structures to harvest the resources, which you can turn into manufactured goods and weapons. You give the weapons to your peasants, and they go smack a fool. And then, a winner is you.
If you?ve done it once, you?ve done it a thousand times, and other games in this genre (*cough* 1701 A.D. *cough*) are far better. If you?ve waited with baited breath for more Stronghold Crusader missions, you ought to pick up Extreme (and finish your master?s degree in WTF-is-wrong-with-you-ology). Otherwise, let this one fade from the store shelves in peace.
